Updates on Patent Procedures in Qatar
DOHA – The Ministry of Trade and Commerce has issued a statement of new procedures for patent registrations.
– Accepted patent applications will now be published in the following month’s issue of the IP Journal. Applicants need to inform themselves in order to pay the advertisement fees in due time.
– Following the 2-month opposition period, and barring any opposition being raised, applicants must present copies of the patent along with the granting fees, in order for the patent to be issued.
– Publication and registration fees must be paid on time to avoid delay of issuance of letters patent.
New Verification System for Trademarks in Egypt
CAIRO – In order to counteract increasing trademark infringement in Egypt, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has launched an app that will help consumers instantly verify the authenticity of a given product. The verification, sent by text message, will include the product’s name and, if applicable, its expiry date.
The new verification system is on a voluntary basis for the time being but may become mandatory for companies in future.
